Matthew Centrowitz used a blistering last 200 meters to win the Gold at the IAAF Indoor World Championships on Sunday in Portland Oregon. Matthew crossed the line in 3:44.22, just ahead of the Czech Republic's Jakub Holusa in 3:44.30.
The win capped an incredible indoor season for Centrowitz who is undefeated in 8 starts while setting 3 indoor personal bests. (1500, Mile, 3000)
The race started tactically, as most Championship races do. A strong surge by Nick Willis with 2 laps to go broke things up as he pulled away down the backstretch. Centrowitz caught Willis with 50 to go and held off Holusa at the line. "The crowd got me through that last 50 meters." Centrowitz said.
Centrowitz will take some time off before gearing up for the Olympic Trials in July.
